If living the good life in a remote part of Tuscany appeals and you're looking for a Tuscan property to redesign, explore the medieval villages in the densely forested Apuan Alps. Terracotta tiled houses and traditional whitewashed stone homes line ancient cobbled paths in charming villages hugging the mountain.
We enjoyed finding design consultant, Stephen Hamel's, renovation of his 7th century mountain property. Originally a dark, poky, compact property with no outside space, Hamel converted it into a spacious, light-filled house, combining the old and new; the flamboyant and colourful, while retaining the integrity of the original house and making the very best of countryside and sea views.
If this Tuscan property has inspired you and redevelopment is something you would like to know more about please let us know.
The village was originally built by the Etruscans in the shape of a fish – of symbolic importance – and wraps around the mountain. Exploring it requires a gently strenuous walk across centuries-old cobblestones and up steps.
